Simple and Proper Facebook Etiquette to Avoid Job Search Problems

Simple and Proper Facebook Etiquette to Avoid Job Search Problems

Everyone needs to know the proper job search etiquette on Facebook. Facebook is a great social networking platform to use for positive reasons.

You can reconnect with long-lost friends and family; share photos, ideas, and videos, and use them as a marketing tool. When using Facebook, though, there are some things that you should keep in mind.

Do use Facebook as a place to connect with people within your school board, organization, community, group, business, family, etc. It’s an excellent platform for communication and sending and receiving ideas and documents.

Don’t post inappropriate pictures of yourself or let friends in non-professional photos tag yourself. As a teacher using Facebook, you don’t want colleagues, your school principal, or your students to see you partying or engaging in inappropriate activities. These types of pictures present a negative image of yourself and can result in ruining your teaching reputation or, even worse, can cause parent complaints about your character leading to your possible dismissal from the school.

Do use Facebook as a useful marketing tool. You can use Facebook to search for jobs, acquire new contacts within the teaching community, and foster new teaching relationships. It is a great way to advertise yourself and get the word out to the Facebook community about upcoming events and campaigns.

Don’t write anything without thinking about what you will post. What you write on Facebook could be seen by many people, not just friends, and family. Censoring yourself is usually a good idea.

Even though Facebook tends to have rules regarding offensive language, remember to abstain from this at all costs. Nothing says unprofessional like swearing.

Don’t discuss inappropriate subjects, including insulting your boss, making fun of your job, or talking about offensive or cruel events. If you wouldn’t feel comfortable saying it in a job interview, don’t say it on Facebook.

Keeping these tips in mind, Facebook can be a great place to socialize and connect with people. Feel free to share any other suggestions for Facebook use.
