Job Search Resolution #1 – Take the time to reflect on what is important to you. Set priorities, make a plan, and stick to it!
Job Search Resolution #2 – Do an informational interview. This is a great way to collect information about a certain teaching area or school district and network with potential employers and colleagues.
Job Search Resolution #3 – Tailor your resume and cover letter to the teaching job you’re applying for. By doing so, you are increasing your chance of getting an interview.
Job Search Resolution #4 – Nurture your network, both personal and professional. You never know where your next lead, idea, or new opportunity may come from. Great leads are everywhere, so make sure to put yourself in a position to receive them.
Job Search Resolution #5 – Try out a new computer program or attend a seminar or professional development workshop to keep your teaching skills current.
Job Search Resolution #6 – Create a LinkedIn account to increase your social networking. Sites like these help maintain contacts and grow your professional network and are really easy to use.
Job Search Resolution #7 – Market yourself! The best way to get out there is to create a marketing strategy for yourself – make a teaching portfolio, develop an elevator pitch, and network, network, network!
Job Search Resolution #8 – Get your finances in order. It is challenging to concentrate on your job search if you are constantly worried about your financial situation. You can contact a credit counselor to help you deal with any present financial worries, and you can look into finding part-time employment to help you financially while you conduct your job search.
Job Search Resolution #9 – Blogging is a great way to expand your Social Networking profile and show your professional expertise. Add a Blog to your bio on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter and watch your professional contacts expand.
Job Search Resolution #10 – Stay balanced, calm, and most importantly, take care of yourself personally by creating some time for yourself.
