Sample Response to Give Ideas

As most classrooms nowadays are multicultural and diverse, it is vital to implement culturally diverse literature. Students are all represented, and students comprehend the cultural diversity of our society and the world. Diversity in the classroom will enhance student leadership in the classroom.

I will make a concentrated effort to implement literature that contains a variety of characters that come from an array of backgrounds and represent many cultures. Using novels that are situated in different continents, are focused on different cultures, and introduce students to non-stereotypical cultural representations will open students’ eyes to the diversity within their own classroom and the world.

By integrating culturally diverse literature, I can ensure all students can see their culture represented within literary texts. Seeing their culture represented in literature allows ethnic students to relate to their own cultures while teaching the class at large about their classmates’ cultures.

Literature circles will provide a great opportunity to present culturally diverse literature to my students. By reading to students, high-quality multicultural literature, students can participate in discussions. They can appreciate and develop a deeper understanding of not only their culture but the culture of others. I connect the literature to cultural themes to provide the opportunity to infuse the curriculum with all aspects of multiculturalism.
