We all get nervous when we have to approach a difficult situation that could end in rejection. It is normal to be afraid of rejection, but remember that it is often worse to do nothing. Whether it is fear of not landing your dream job, asking for a raise, or asking your crush out on a date, the key is to realize that you will be no worse off for trying.
If you don’t go after what you want, you could end up losing out on a better job, a raise, or love. Remember that you will always survive a rejection but that if you don’t ask, you’ll only get what life hands you…which will tend to be other people’s sloppy seconds.
In order to overcome your fear of rejection, set goals for yourself and tell others what you are planning to do to hold yourself accountable. Also schedule yourself a time that you will ask and hold yourself to it.
Now swallow your fear and ask…and if that person says no move on to the next until you get a yes. Remember that persistence is the key to having the life you’ve always wanted.
